A470 Gelligemlyn Improvement

A470 Gelligemlyn Improvement
This scheme involves the improvement to the existing, substandard road to the north of Dolgellau.

Aim of this scheme

This £8.6m scheme, just to the north of Dolgellau and within the Snowdonia National Park, improves the existing substandard section of the Cardiff to Glan Conwy trunk road and enhances safety for users.

The A470 Cardiff - Glan Conwy trunk road is a key north-south transport link for Wales serving several communities and providing a route for commercial, tourist and local traffic.
With a number of sharp bends, narrow road sections and poor visibility this substandard section of the A470 route at Gelligemlyn has been high on the Welsh Government's list of priorities for trunk road improvements in Wales. This contract completes the work started on site as emergency repair work in 2009.

In addition, this scheme will provide a direct boost to the local economy by providing local employment and training opportunities during construction.

The latest about this scheme

The works start on 16th April, 2012 and will be constructed for the Welsh Government by Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Limited.
