Mid Wales

Dylife © Crown copyright (2010) Visit Wales
Routes through mid-Wales are made primarily by car along the A470, A483, A487 and on the A49 across the border to England.

We are improving journey times and providing safer networks for cars, buses, coaches, community transport, cyclists, pedestrians and the emergency services. Where we have identified trunk road network improvements - we will create safe overtaking to improve:

  • reliability and
  • safety.

We will:

  • Work with the UK Government to deliver the intervention identified for the A458 from Buttington Cross to Wollaston Cross (discussions on funding are on-going).
  • Start the programme of works, by 2014, to the A470 and A483 through Builth Wells and the A483 through Newtown (as part of the north-south corridor proposals).

A458 Buttington Cross to Wollaston Cross

The scheme is proposed to improve approximately 9km of substandard road to address the poor accident record on this stretch of the A458.
