Brown and white signs

Details of our support criteria for brown and white tourist signs.

We have support criteria in place for brown and white sign applications.

To qualify for Visit Wales support as part of your sign application, you need to:

  • Currently participate in the relevant quality assurance scheme (or join and prove current membership of your local Tourist Association if no relevant scheme exists).
  • Provide us with a copies or links to your promotional material showing a map and written directions.

Please note however that these are not the only criteria you should satisfy.  As brown and white signs are classed as traffic signs, they are issued either by your local authority (if located on the local road network) or by the Welsh Government transport department if on a trunk road.

Should you submit an application; the relevant local authority will contact us to check if our support criteria are satisfied.  This however only forms part of the process and there are many factors they must consider for example, road safety issues and environmental impact.  Factors to consider are too lengthy to detail here, but your local authority (highways department) will be able to advise you further.

Please be aware that the cost of these signs falls on the applicant. We need to stress that satisfying the Visit Wales support criteria alone does not ensure that your application for a sign will be successful.
