The latest National Statistics on Examination Results produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 26 November 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on Examination Results include data for Wales for the period 1998/99 to 2007/08.  The latest release updates the provisional figures published on 30 September in SDR 150/2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

15 year olds

  • 58 per cent achieved the Level 2 threshold, 3 percentage points higher than in 2006/07 and 10 percentage points higher compared with 1998/99.
  • The average wider points score was 356, 12 points higher than in 2006/07.

17 year olds

  • 94 per cent of those entering a volume equivalent to 2 A levels achieved the Level 3 threshold, the same as in 2006/07 but 3 percentage points higher compared with 1998/99.
