The latest National Statistics on Assembly Learning Grants awarded to Welsh domiciled students in further education produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 28th October 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website This Statistical Release presents information on the number of Assembly Learning Grants (ALGs) awarded to Welsh domiciled students in Further Education in academic year 2007/08. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 27 March 2008.

Key points for 2007/08 from the release are:

  • 6,170 students in Further Education applied for an Assembly Learning Grant as at end July 2008, an increase of 2 per cent compared with 2006/07.
  • 5,140 applications were successful (83 per cent of applications), an increase of 9 per cent compared with the same point in 2006/07.
  • 75 per cent of all applications and 88 per cent of successful applications were from full time students.
  • £5.7 million has been paid to date to FE students in ALGs, an increase of 5 per cent compared with the same point in time in 2006/07.
