The latest National Statistics on the destinations of students gaining higher education (HE) qualifications from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK in the academic year 2006/07 produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 24 September according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website The bulletin includes data on Welsh domiciled qualifiers and those who studied at Welsh HEIs.  The data included here are taken from the Higher Education Statistics Agency's (HESA) 2006/07 Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) record.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Around three-quarters of both Welsh domiciled qualifiers (78 per cent) and qualifiers from Welsh institutions (77 per cent) entered some sort of work. 5 per cent were assumed to be unemployed, with the majority of the remainder entering study only.
  • Qualifiers who studied at Welsh HEIs or had a Welsh domicile background were less likely to remain in Wales for employment when compared to other UK countries but are comparable to English regions.
  • The proportions entering each destination activity type have shown only small changes over the period 2002/03 to 2006/07.
