The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 21 November 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 31 December 2007. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 15 August 2008.

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 44,700 fires and false alarms in the year ending 31 December 2007, a decrease of 5 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 10 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 26 fatal casualties from fires in Wales in the year ending 31 December 2007, up from 22 in the previous period.
  • There were 650 non-fatal casualties from fires recorded compared with 660 in the previous period.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 31 December 2007, there were 19,700 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of less than 1 per cent from 19,800 in the previous period.
  • There were 1,600 malicious false fire alarms during the current period a decrease of 6 per cent when compared with the previous period.
