The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 20 June 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 June 2007. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 2 May 2008.

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended around 48,200 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 June 2007, an increase of 8 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 5 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 18 fatal casualties from fires in Wales in the year ending 30 June 2007, up from 17 in the previous period.
  • There were around 650 non-fatal casualties from fires recorded compared with around 690 in the previous period.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 30 June 2007, there were around 20,400 false fire alarms in Wales, an increase of 7 per cent from around 19,100 in the previous period.
  • There were around 1,600 malicious false fire alarms during the period a decrease of 5 per cent when compared with the previous period.
