Fire Statistics Monitor, Quarter 2 2007

Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 June 2007. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 2 May 2008.

Fires:

• The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended around 48,200 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 June 2007, an increase of 8 per cent on the previous period.
• The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 5 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

• There were 18 fatal casualties from fires in Wales in the year ending 30 June 2007, up from 17 in the previous period.
• There were around 650 non-fatal casualties from fires recorded compared with around 690 in the previous period.

False Alarms:

• In the year ending 30 June 2007, there were around 20,400 false fire alarms in Wales, an increase of 7 per cent from around 19,100 in the previous period.
• There were around 1,600 malicious false fire alarms during the period a decrease of 5 per cent when compared with the previous period.
