The latest National Statistics on NHS General Dental Services produced by the Welsh Government were released on 17 May 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on NHS General Dental Services activity and the number of people seen include data for Wales for the period up to the end of December 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 16 February 2012.

All figures in this quarterly release are provisional; final statistics for the year will be published in the annual statistical output in August 2012 providing a wider range of analysis.

Activity between 1 October and 31 December 2011:

  • A total of 1.28 million Units of NHS Dental Activity were carried out, an increase of 6.4 per cent compared to the same period last year. This represented 583, 460 individual courses of treatment, an increase of 6.9 per cent when compared to the same period last year.

Patients treated:

  • 1.66 million patients were recorded as having been treated in the 24 months before 31 December 2011 amounting to 55.3 per cent of the population, 65.1 per cent of the child population (under 18 years old) and 52.7 per cent of the adult population (18 years or over). This is a 0.8 per cent increase of the population treated in Wales compared to the same period last year.
