Health Maps Wales, Update July 2010

Release 5 of the mapping tool Health Maps Wales is available from 4th August 2010. This update gives access to more information than previously available. The website is provided by Health Solutions Wales on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government.

Health Maps Wales includes data on

  • Hospital admissions
  • Cancer incidence
  • Mortality including cancer mortality, injury mortality, cardiovascular disease mortality, respiratory disease mortality
  • General fertility rates and births (updated with 2009 data)
  • Child immunisation (updated with 2009/10 data)
  • Child Dental Health
  • Deaths associated with alcohol.

The majority of these rates can be mapped across Wales at Middle Super Output level (areas with between 5,000 and 11,000 residents) and for individual years, some however are only available for combined years or at higher geographical levels due to the size of the numbers.   Also, data can now be mapped to the new Local Health Boards.

A new feature is the inclusion of ‘Rural and Urban Classification of Wales’ to LSOA and MSOA level plus a Rural/Urban Filter within the reports to allow users to compare areas with same degree of rurality.
