Fostering and Adoption Intermediary Services, year ending 31 March 2008

The statistics on fostering and adoption intermediary services include data for Wales for the period up to the end of March 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 24 October 2007.

The key points from the latest release are:

• 73 new supervised private fostering arrangements began during the year, compared to 60 in the previous year.
• At 1 October 2008, there were 101 registered providers of fostering services operating in Wales and these services provided a total of 2,885 settings for foster care.
• In 2007-08, local authorities dealt with 293 requests for adoption intermediary services from people adopted before 30 November 1975, and there were 366 cases open at 31 March 2008.
