Key facts:

• Life expectancy at birth in Wales was 76.6 years for males and 81.0 years for females.
• On average women are expected to live approximately 4.3 years longer than men in Wales.
• Life expectancy at birth in Wales, for both males and females was lower than England and higher than Scotland. The figures for Wales were higher than Northern Ireland for males but the same for females.
• Within Wales, Monmouthshire had the highest life expectancy at birth for both males and females.
• Blaenau Gwent had the lowest life expectancy in Wales for both males and females.
• Life expectancy figures at unitary authority level in Wales differed by 3.9 years for males and 4.6 years for females.
