Municipal Waste Management Report, 2007-08

The release includes information about the amount of municipal waste collected from household and non-household sources and the levels of recycling in Wales. The information presented relates to 2007-08, together with figures for previous years.

The key points from the latest release are:

• The total amount of municipal waste (excluding abandoned vehicles) produced in Wales has continued to fall over the last 3 years, with just under 1.8 million tonnes produced in 2007-08.
• The proportion of municipal waste (excluding abandoned vehicles) recycled or composted in Wales has been continually increasing since 2000-01. In fact the proportion more than tripled to 33.4 per cent in 2007-08.
• Whilst landfill is still the main form of management of municipal waste, the use of landfill sites has been steadily decreasing over the last 6 years.
