The latest National Statistics on the Index of Production and Construction produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 12 November 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on the Index of Production and Construction include data for Wales and the UK for the period up to Quarter 2 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 3 July 2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The Index of Production for Wales for the latest four quarters rose by 3.1 per cent compared with the previous four quarters.  The UK index rose by 0.2 per cent over the same period.
  • Production output in Wales for the latest quarter shrank by 0.1 per cent compared with the previous quarter. The UK index fell by 0.7 per cent over the same period.
  • Electricity and Gas fell by 6.2 per cent in the latest four quarters compared with the previous four quarters.  The UK index rose by 3.2 per cent over the same period.
  • The Index of Construction for Wales for the latest four quarters rose by 0.5 per cent compared with the previous four quarters.  The UK Index rose by 2.8 per cent over the same period.
