The Sharing Personal Information (SPI) Programme aims to make sure public services, as well as appropriate third and private sector providers, share personal information about individuals legally, safely and with confidence.

SPI is critical to ensuring that public services maintain and improve standards and efficiency, are coherently and collaboratively delivered based on need and safeguard the individual when necessary.  People must be confident in, and satisfied with, the services they receive.

The programme aims to ensure:

  • The Wales Accord on the Sharing of Personal Information (WASPI) is adopted as the single “Gold Standard” and assured basis for all SPI nationally.
  • Organisations work together locally to provide the necessary support, advice and training to practitioners and their managers on SPI.
  • WASPI implementation is supported nationally with training, advice and quality assurance of practice and protocols, linked to the development of information governance at an all-Wales level.
  • The Programme is guided by stakeholders including service users so that barriers to sharing are addressed at national level when necessary.
  • Progress can be demonstrated through existing reporting and monitoring systems with evidence of improvement in outcomes for those receiving services.
