We believe that everyone in Wales should have the opportunity to live in a good quality home within a safe and secure community. To help achieve this, the physical standard and condition of existing housing must be maintained and improved to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (the Standard).

We expect all social landlords in Wales to adopt the Standard and to devise realistic programmes for bringing all their properties up to it by the end of 2012 or by agreement with Welsh Ministers.

The Standard is intended to help social landlords assess their housing stock. Separate guidance has been issued to Registered Social Landlords' and local authorities.
