Improving the quality of private housing and support for tenants, owners and those hoping to buy a home.

Around 80% of Welsh households live in privately-owned housing either as owner-occupiers or tenants of private landlords. We believe that everyone in Wales should have the opportunity to live in good quality, affordable housing. To achieve this in private housing we are:

  • working with local councils and landlords to improve housing standards;
  • supporting regeneration and renewal schemes for privately owned properties;
  • helping to bring empty homes back into use;
  • supporting older and disabled people to adapt their homes to enable them to continue to live there independently; and
  • improving tenants rights and participation services.
