Waste and recycling

We all produce waste. In England and Wales, over 100 million tonnes of waste is produced each year, and this is increasing. As the amount of waste grows, the risk to our health and environment grows too.
Whilst we can't stop producing waste, we can reduce it by:
  • re-using;
  • recycling; and
  • composting.
The Welsh Assembly Government aims to achieve at least 40% recycling and composting of municipal waste by 2010.

Where recycling, re-using and composting are not possible, we must dispose of our waste in a safe and environmentally friendly way. Read "Wise about Waste: The National Waste Strategy for Wales" which tells us how we can all make a difference.
