UK Committee on Climate Change

The Committee on Climate Change is an independent body which advises UK Governments on climate change and reports to the UK Parliament on progress made.

The priorities of the Committee are to:

  • provide independent advice to Government on setting and meeting carbon budgets and targets;
  • monitor progress in reducing emissions and achieving carbon budgets;
  • conduct independent research and analysis into climate change; and
  • engage with representatives interested in climate change from across the UK.

The Committee is made up of eight experts from the fields of climate change, science and economics, chaired by Lord Adair Turner. The Committee has an Adaptation Sub Committee which focuses on what is needed to prepare the UK for climate change.

The Welsh Government co-sponsors the Committee with the UK Government, the Scottish Government and the Northern Ireland Executive.
