In this section you will find out what the Welsh Assembly Government is doing to tackle TB in cattle on many fronts.

Bovine TB is a chronic, debilitating infectious disease.  It affects the health and welfare of cattle in Wales, and the UK.

Over 12,000 cattle were slaughtered in Wales because of the disease in 2008 compared with 669 in 1997. The cost of compensation to farmers has risen from £1.8m in 2000/01 to £15.9m in 2007/08. It could exceed £80m by 2014.

Bovine TB can be transmitted to humans and other mammals, which means it has serious health implications beyond the health of cattle.

Using only one approach against the disease doesn’t work.  The disease keeps coming back if we leave infection behind.  We need to find it fast, deal with the source of infection, stamp it out, stop it from coming back.
