There is a growing interest in counselling in schools. This is driven by an increasing awareness of the role that schools can play in promoting emotional health for children and young people and in addressing mental health issues.

From April to October 2007 a research team led by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and involving teachers, academics, administrative staff and a statistician, undertook an evaluation of models of counselling services.

The research team made 10 recommendations to the Welsh Government. These were accepted and are incorporated into the Strategy. The research document is available on the BACP website.
