This publication replaces the 2011/12 versions of the Statutory assessment arrangements booklet and the Foundation Phase Statutory assessment and reporting arrangements booklet.

It provides important information regarding the statutory assessment arrangements for Foundation Phase and Key Stages 2 and 3.

Headteachers, governors, coordinators and teachers who will be involved in the end of Foundation Phase and/or key stage statutory assessment arrangements should familiarise themselves with the key requirements set out in this publication.

As in previous years, information on National Data Collection and reporting arrangements will be issued separately in the spring.

A summary of the key dates by when teacher assessment should be finalised for reporting and National Data Collection are available below.

National Data Collection: Key dates for the school year 2012/13

  • By 19 April 2013: Schools to receive guidance on National Data Collection and reporting arrangements from the Welsh Government
  • 8–22 May 2013: Statutory national reading and numeracy tests administered in schools
  • 14 May 2013: Date on roll
  • 7 May 2013: The Data Exchange Wales initiative (DEWi) available for upload of completed NDC files
  • By 14 June 2013: All teacher assessments and National Reading Tests raw scores to be available on DEWi for the Welsh Government to download (note that a local authority may set an earlier deadline to facilitate local validation)
  • By 5 July 2013: Final deadline for submission of amended files following validation (note that a local authority may set an earlier deadline)
  • By the end of summer term 2013: School reports to parents/carers
  • By end of August 2013: National and local authority results published. Data passed to Estyn to inform inspections in the 2013/14 academic year
  • By end of August 2013: School comparative report including benchmarking available for schools to download from DEWi

(Schools should upload and validate their completed file as soon as it is ready rather than waiting until the deadline – this will help local authorities and the Welsh Government to process files and resolve queries earlier.)
