Principal Learning Qualifications

Principal Learning qualifications provide a great introduction to different work sectors and learning through a combination of theoretical, practical and work-related activities.

They equip learners with sector knowledge, practical and transferable skills that industry, training, further and higher education want.

Principal Learning Qualifications are now available as options within the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification (WBQ). From September 2012, Principal Learning will also be available as a stand alone qualification.

At least half of the learner’s time must involve applying knowledge and skills through tasks that are related to work in that sector (applied learning).

Principal Learning Qualifications are available at level 1 [Foundation], level 2 [Intermediate] and level 3 [Advanced].

Principal Learning qualifications offer exciting opportunities to work with employers. Businesses can get involved in a number of different ways making the learning much more relevant to the real world. For example:

  • provide work experience opportunities;
  • set design projects;
  • give student talks;
  • act as mentors;
  • host workplace visits;
  • Contribute to learning materials.
