Arts Strategy Board

The Arts Strategy Board was set up after the Wales Arts Review was published in 2006 to ensure a joined-up approach to the development of arts policy and strategy in Wales.

The Board is advisory and has no decision-making powers or formal voting procedures.

Purpose

The purpose of the Arts Strategy Board is to:

  • Advise the Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage on the development of arts policy and play a key role in challenging, informing and shaping future arts policy and strategies;
  • Advise the Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage on the strategic priorities for the arts;
  • Oversee the development of strategies for the arts and ensure a coherent approach across the sector;
  • Oversee research developments in the arts;
  • Assist in maximising the cultural value of the arts spend by linking initiatives with wider social, economic and cultural objectives;    
  • Promote collaboration and the sharing of intelligence between WG Departments, ACW, WLGA, local authorities, arts organisations and other partners;
  • Involve experts to assist in the development of specific strategies; and
  • Scrutinise the plans of regional partnerships to ensure consistency with wider arts policy and strategies.
