Evaluation of smoke-free legislation
Findings of the research commissioned on the outcomes of the smoke-free legislation.
Smoke-free legislation came into force in Wales on 2nd April 2007, ending smoking in enclosed and substantially enclosed public places.
Routine monitoring of the smoke-free legislation in Wales has been carried out through the Welsh Health Survey and through routine collection of local authority compliance data.
In addition, the Welsh Assembly Government has commissioned specific studies looking at changes in public knowledge and attitudes and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke.
These studies have drawn on the evaluation approach taken in Scotland, and have used comparable research instruments and methodology.
