Communiqué from the first Tourism Summit

Today, the Heritage Minister and representatives of the tourism industry met at the first tourism summit, to hear from the industry how the current economic climate is having an impact on the tourism sector.

The summit has been an important first step to strengthening effective working relationship and existing partnership working between the Government and tourism industry, which will be vital in overcoming the challenges faced over the coming months.

A number of issues including the economic importance of the industry and marketing were discussed at the meeting, which was chaired by Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones and Director of Tourism and Marketing at visit Wales, Jonathan Jones.

The Minister today announced that a further summit will be held in North Wales on 15 December where he will report back on actions that the Assembly Government will take.
