An Independent Advisory Group, chaired by former Welsh Director of the Planning Inspectorate John Davies MBE, is now asking businesses, organisations and people across Wales to provide their own views and evidence around how the current system can be improved so it better serves the needs of Wales.
The review will look at how planning decisions are currently made in Wales and consider the aspects of the current system that are working well as well as those areas that would benefit from improvement.
One key aim of the review is to make the planning system more flexible so that it supports local communities, assists businesses and helps to drive forward Wales’ economy.
Speaking about the ‘Call for Evidence’, Environment Minister John Griffiths said:
“Getting the planning system right is essential if we are to ensure that our vision for sustainable and economic renewal across Wales is translated into jobs and investment on the ground.
“That is why we are reviewing our current system and why we have established an Independent Advisory Group.
“I know that many people around Wales have their own views on how the system can be improved. I would urge anyone with a view to get involved and help inform the future of planning in Wales”.
John Davies, the Chair of the Group, said:
“We have been set a crucially important task by the Welsh Government. If we are to get this right we need people and businesses in Wales to grasp this opportunity and tell us what they think needs to be done to ensure the planning system delivers.”
