Local Government Minister Carl Sargeant explained that engaging citizens as users of local authority services in the debate about how well public services are performing is crucial in driving forward improvement.
The Minister said:
"We are all aware of the challenging financial climate we are likely to face in the coming years and must continue to improve.
"We need to create a stronger, more accountable relationship between those who receive services and those who provide them.
"Individual citizens and service users also have a powerful role in scrutinising services since they are they are using them on a regular basis. I want them to be able to easily access information about how well the local services that matter to them are performing. I hope that this publication will help them to do this.
"The data will also ensure that elected members are equipped to scrutinise the performance of their local Council on behalf of the electorate."
The Minister added:
"This is not a one off publication. I intend to produce further versions with more up to date data and also plan to develop further the citizen focus of the publication as I look to engage with a wider audience in driving improvement.
"I hope that the data will stimulate a continued and meaningful debate and would welcome any constructive feedback."
