The service was held in Westminster Abbey this weekend.
On Tuesday 22 February the second biggest city in New Zealand was struck by a devastating earthquake which reached 6.3 on the Richter scale.
It is now estimated that 165 people lost their lives in the tragedy which has affected the whole of the Christchurch community.
The First Minister sent condolences from Wales to the New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key, at the time. The events were made all the more devastating as they followed the Pike River mining disaster when 29 miners lost their lives.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent eight fire fighters to Christchurch which made up part of a 62-strong UK team search and rescue personnel.
Counsel General, John Griffiths, said:
"My thoughts continue to be with the people of Christchurch as they struggle to recover from this awful tragedy.
"The people of Wales have a special empathy towards New Zealand, and it was an honour to be present at the memorial service to remember the victims.
"I hope the community in Christchurch can take some comfort from knowing people all over the world are thinking of them, and that they find the strength to make a start on re-building their lives."
