Police Forces to Recruit for Welsh Government CSOs

The Welsh Government’s commitment to fund an additional 500 Community Support Officers across Wales will take another step forward when Police Forces and British Transport Police start actively looking for recruits in the New Year.
Friday 30 December 2011

Training of a limited number of officers is already underway in Gwent and Dyfed Powys, but all forces will launch their own individual recruitment campaigns early in the New Year.

Minister for Local Government and Communities, Carl Sargeant, said the funding of the additional CSOs is one of the top five commitments in the Welsh Government’s Programme for Government.

“These CSOs are not a replacement for warranted police officers. They will be a valuable and visible addition for existing police resources, engaging with local residents and community organisations and providing support and reassurance.  As part of their Neighbourhood Policing Teams they will help tackle local community safety issues, including domestic violence, anti-social behaviour and related criminal activity.

“I have already met some of the first recruits and have been impressed with their commitment and enthusiasm.  I look forward to meeting others across Wales as they undertake their training and start work within their communities.”

Details of the recruitment processes will appear on the individual Police Force websites.
