Adele Baumgardt will become Vice Chair while Julia Longville, Janet Kingston, Johanna Lloyd and Peter King will become board members.
The appointments will commence on 1 September 2012 and will be for an initial period of three years.
Huw Lewis said,
“I am delighted to announce these appointments to the board of Sport Wales. All five of the appointees bring with them a wide range of skills and experiences from several different sports and I am sure they will all make a valuable contribution to the excellent work Sport Wales undertakes.
"It is particularly pleasing to appoint four women to the board and I hope this will boost the already good work that Sport Wales are doing to encourage women and girls to increase their participation in sport."
Laura McAllister, Chair of Sport Wales said,
“I’m delighted to welcome our new Board Members to Sport Wales at this exciting time for sport in Wales. The quantity and quality of applicants for the positions was hugely impressive and demonstrated the energy there is around sport in Wales at the moment. With 68 Welsh competitors travelling to the Olympics and Paralympics there is a tremendous pride in the success of Wales as a sporting nation. The challenge now is to reflect this positivity into increased participation among all communities.
"I am pleased that we will be welcoming more women onto the Board. Getting more women and girls taking part in sport is a key area for us, going hand in hand with ensuring that the governance of sport is more reflective of society as a whole. I know that the new Board Members will bring a different perspective and help us to shape the debate on how we can achieve broader participation.”

“These appointments continue our work to build a dynamic, challenging culture within Sport Wales. The new members bring together a range of experience from education to business, along with new ways of working that will have a positive impact on the sport sector in Wales. At a point where we have one of the biggest global sporting events on our doorstep there is no better time to be adding these new skills to our Board, helping us to secure a lasting participation legacy from the Games.”
