Atticus Digital moves into the mobile games market

Atticus Digital, which is based in Cardiff Bay, plans to specialise in developing a range of bespoke apps and games for the worldwide energy sector.

The initiative is being supported with £44,750 from the Welsh Government’s Digital Development Fund which Business Minister Edwina Hart said is actively helping digital media companies in Wales bring new products to market, gain new skills and win new business outside of Wales.

She said:

"The games market is one of the most competitive industries in the world and I am delighted the Welsh Government is supporting highly innovative businesses in Wales like Atticus Digital enter a market that has the potential to create jobs, growth and wealth."

Atticus already works with many of the world’s leading energy companies and has a comprehensive knowledge of the alternative energy sector and its diverse technologies.

It has carved a niche market for itself in the sector by helping companies explain complex issues and technologies to clients, stakeholders, businesses and governments through the use of computer generated animation, ranging from 2D motion graphics to photo-real 3D stereoscopic animation.

Atticus Director Martin McCabe described the move into the mobile games market as a logical progression.

"We know how important it is for these companies to get their messages across to help people understand more about key issues like climate change, reducing carbon emissions, the rising demand for energy, security of the energy supply and the role of alternative energy.

"The use of mobile games can help get these serious messages across in an entertaining but educational way and we already have the backing of a number of companies that want us to create bespoke games for them."

He added that support from the Digital Development Fund would ensure any Intellectual Property (IP) they created would be retained in Wales.

He explained:

"Although we have worked for many of the world’s leading energy companies and organisations we have never owned the IP and never benefited from royalties or an on-going revenue stream so this will be a real bonus.

"We really appreciate this support from the Welsh Government as we have a fantastically talented team who are very excited about moving into this new sector and developing new skills."

Atticus Digital which is currently active in the UK, USA & Canada, Middle East, Asia and Australia, is a registered Apple Developer and producing Apps for the iOS platform but intend multi-platform delivery in the future.
