This document seeks views on the proposed development of a family focused nursing service for secondary school-aged children and young people in Wales.
The Welsh Assembly Government will publish a summary of the responses to this document. Normally, the name and address (or part of the address) of the author are published along with the response. The One Wales (2007) document committed the Welsh Assembly Government to:
"provide a minimum of one family nurse per secondary school by the end of the Assembly term".
A consultation paper; 'The development of a family nurse service for Wales' was published September – December 2008 and a child friendly version was issued until 31 January 2009.
Following the consultation the Minister for Health and Social Services agreed to a change in the title from Family nurse to School Nurse based upon the responses.
Results from both consultations have been summarised. Response were used to develop a Framework for the School Nursing Service in Wales (August 2009). A National Implementation Plan will be launched later in the year based upon the collation of local delivery plans.
