There is a new vaccine to protect girls and young women against the most common cause of cervical cancers.
In September 2008 the first vaccinations of girls in school year eight began. The full course of three injections will be completed by May 2009.
In January 2009 a catch-up campaign began for young women born between 1st September 1990 and 31st August 1991. Their vaccinations will be completed by August 2009.
In September 2009, girls in school year 8 will be offered their vaccinations.
In addition, a catch-up campaign for older girls born between 1st September 1991 and 31st August 1995 will begin.
