Andrew Davies, Minister for Economic Development and Transport
I am announcing my decision on the allocation of Transport Grant funds to local authorities for 2006-07 at 9.00am today.

I am providing £125 million to improve Wales’ transport infrastructure and to promote sustainable transport. The settlement includes over £90 million to develop the road and rail networks, including over £9 million for the next phase of investment under the £36 million strategic rail improvement scheme for South East Wales.  It also includes some £24 million to support integrated transport solutions and a further £7 million to encourage walking and cycling including further funding for the highly successful Safe Routes to Schools initiative.

This settlement will enable local authorities to progress a wide range of projects, taking forward the Transport Grant programme and helping to implement the Welsh Assembly Government’s integrated transport policy.
